Pics:

Saaaaay Cheeeeeeese!!!
Hey, check out our new TV!! That was a total surprise!! We love it!!
Kevin and I's feast was not this huge, but just about! How do you cook a Christmas dinner for 2? Every recipe I had was for like 12! Hahaha, we will be eating leftovers until Easter!!
On the left: Kevin, me, Jen my sis, and Jon her fiance. This was at the Indian Creek Christmas Dinner at Pappadeux's earlier this week!! What do you think, are Jen and I twins?? For all of you who know the answer already don't answer!! Hahaha!!
Check out the new tires!! I can't wait to test drive them!! Oh yeah, did I mention that these shoes were voted Runner's World Best Shoe of 2005? I knew these were my favorite for some reason!!
This was the surprise of the holiday!! I was totally sneaky and bought Kevin a new Paul Reed Smith Guitar. He was desperately in need of a new guitar, so I surprised him. His face was priceless when I presented him with it!!
It would not an occasion if I didn't torture my dog with some rediculious hat!! Christmas Eve fun!!
Merry Christmas everyone!!
I should have done these first and then my journal entry. Oh well!!

Merry Christmas Y'all!!

I have had the most wonderful Christmas!! The only thing that might have topped it off was an incredible 10 mile run; however I did stick to my guns. No running or exercise until after Christmas. Well, here we are at 6:40pm (Tejas time) and I have not exercised...unless you count the walk Nikko and I went on. Now that Kevin and I have gorged ourselves and are enjoying a bit of Champagne and desert, I don't think I will do any running tonight!! Hahaha!! We have been so blessed this year!! Both of us are gainfully employed, have the most amazing group of friends, a loving extended family, a dog who will let us do just about anything to, and an incredible love for each other! What more could you ask for? I think the Champagne is making me ooooze sentiment. I should stop. Uhhh, no I shouldn't, isn't what Christmas is for??? Being all lovey and sentimental?? I think so!! And so on. I can't wait until tomorrow, I get to workout again!! I am healthy and ready to jump or plunge back into my workout program!! Oh yeah, here are some really great pics from this Christmas..some of them are actually from Thanksmas (Christmas at Thanksgiving in OK with my fam!!).

Twas the Night before Christmas

My own rendition of a timeless classic. Ahem:

Twas the night before Christmas, whan all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The Asics and Brooks were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas would soon be there.
The runners were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of marathons danced in their heads.

And Kevin in his 'kerchief', and I in my cap,
Had just settled down for a long winter's nap.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter.

Away to the window I ran like a flash,
Tore open the curtains, it was a mad dash.
The Texas moon gave the road a glow
and lighted the way for Santa below.

When, what to my foggy eyes should appear,
Richard, Susan, and Control top lady running in a pack coming from the rear.
With a group so small and so quick,
I knew in a moment I must be unfit.
More rapid than eagles the pacers they came,
And they whistled and called me by name:
Onward Karrie, they yelled as they passed in a flurry,
As they rounded the curve, I knew they were in a hurry.

To the end of Waketon!! To the top of the hill!!
Now run faster, Run away, Run away All!!

As the dust that before the wild Tornado fly,
When we are met with an obstacle, we run toward the sky,
So up to Quail Run the pacers we flew,
With packs full of Gu, and St. Nicholas too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the road
the pounding and slogging of each little toe.
As I drew in my hand, and was turning around
Down the drive St. Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed in running gear from his head to his foot
and his clothes were all tarnished with sweat and soot;
A bundle of running toys he had flung on his back;
And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.

His eyes--how they twinkled!! His Garmin no less,
His cheeks like roses, he forgot sunblock I guess.
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
The endurox he had was too concentrated, you know!!
The stump of a powerbar he held tight in his teeth,
and the remaining chunks encircled his mouth like a wreath.
He had a chisled face and tight abs he bore,
that shook, when he laughed like waves on a shore.
He was a lean and muscular fit old elf,
and I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
soon let me to know I had nothing to dread.
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
and filled all those Brooks, then turned with a jerk.
And tightening his laces on his shoe,
giving a nod and through the door he flew.
He ran to his group with such delight
And away they all ran like speed of light.

Left huffing and puffing,
I think did I eat too much stuffing?
I wonder could I be dreaming,
but my face was so cold and still beaming!

When it was over and I completed my chore;
my legs, they were so tire and so sore.
As I headed for bed,
my body felt so dead.
I quickly realize this is something never done before;
the control top lady, my competition no more.

But before my head hit the pillow,
I forgot to wave goodbye to Santa, that jolly old fellow.
As I reached to turn out the light,
I heard him exclaim, ere he sprinted out of sight,

"Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night"

Merry Christmas everyone!!

Wheat Free waffles taste funny!!

Last night was my first night without any medicine and I woke up coughing??? Bleh!! Oh well, I am not feeling as well as yesterday, but not feeling bad either. I feel like I am recovering from a yucky virus. Guess what, I am!! Hahaha!! I have 3 tests today, rounding out the week with 7 whole tests!! Wow, what a big week!! I haven't had a week this busy since last March!! I am driving all the way across town today and testing the sickest and most uncooperative patients!! This is good for my soul, I just know it!! I am learning wonderful lessons, right???

Dr. Voodoo is going to have to start all the way over with my diet. I have sort of fallen off the wheat, dairy, and sugar free diet thing!! I had to cancel my appointment on Tuesday because of feeling so sick. I want to make it back up possibly next week when things are full swing again!!

All of my friends and clients have been so sad this week for a lack of workouts!! I feel awful, and want to join in, but I can't risk it. Not yet at least!! I have not trained anyone this week, I have cancelled every last one of them!! This is very un-Karrie-like!! I like to push through everything, sickness, fatigue, injury whatever!! I never cancel, but this week I did. I must say that I am totally enjoying the sleep!! I am starting back up again on Friday, but no running or workingout my self until after Christmas!! I need to find a training goal!! Which marathon or half marathon to run!! I desperately need a goal!! I will have to keep checking my calander and commit to something!!

M1: wheat free, glutten free waffle (1), butter, real maple syrup, 1 banana sliced

Weight check in: 160.5 (I just might make my goal of dropping below 160 before Christmas yet!!)

Ready to Conquer the World?

Oh yeah!! I am feeling so much better!! Poor Kevin, he's got the sinus stuff again!! I am going to do everything I can to keep from getting it back from him!! Good hand washing, clean sheets, Lysol and so on!! I am glad I am feeling better, I have 4 tests today!! Yipeee!! Considering my average has been 4 tests a month, this is a good thing!! I am not going to do any exercising though!! I don't want to risk it!! I will be healthy after Christmas!! You just wait and see!! I will be stronger than ever!! I am hungry to run and workout, but oddly enough, not for food!! How strange!!
M1: 1/4 cup oatmeal, butter, brown sugar, banana
M2: Protein shake, fruit cup
M3: Fiesta Chicken soup and giant goldfish (do not eat list)
M4: Nature's Valley Peanut Butter Granola Bar
M5: 3 Butterfly Fried Shrimp (This actually tasted really gross!!), handful of fries, a few bites of a salad, bread (one slice), and about 4 bites of Praline Cheesecake (this also actually tasted gross) What's wrong with me on those things, could it be I am actually changing my taste buds??? How strange!!

Rest is good!!

I am now in my 4th day of rest and doing a bit better!! My sinus infection turned into Bronchitis or Walking Pneumonia, I am not sure which. I had a really, really hard time breathing on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. I cancelled all of my appointments all weekend long and so far everyone today. I am doing better today, I still think I will cancel my evening appointments for just one more day. I am not willing to risk relapsing again!! I don't want a hospital visit because I am too stubborn to rest. I will rest!! The more I move around, the more I cough, and that makes my chest hurt so I will not be moving around for a little bit longer!! Anyway, I miss everyone and can't wait until things get back to normal!! I still don't have any appetite, but that is okay with me!! Hahaha!! I have been eating just not as much!! Okay, now with the diet for today:
M1: 1/4 oatmeal measured dry, butter, brown sugar, banana
M2: 1 cup organic veggie soup, fruit salad, giant goldfish (I think these have flour in them)
M3: POS 2 shake
M4: Not sure yet, I will blog more later!!

Miss you all!! Blog on friends!!

So the Doc says:

I have to rest, no exercise, for 3 days! I have a severe Sinus Infection and Bronchial Spasms. (Personally, anything with Spasms in the title in it is quite scarey!!) Anyway, I have to take Antibiotics for 5 days and a cough syrup with codine in it to take at night until my nasty cough goes away!! Torture, no exercise, no running, no volleyball, nothing??? This will be torture. At least it is only for 3 days instead of longer. She threatened me with pnuemonia, the walking variety, if I chose to continue running with all of this sinus stuff going on!! I lightly made a joke and asked if running pnuemonia would be better than walking pnuemonia. Hahahaha, too bad my doc didn't think it was very funny. She just said with her European accent: Karrie, you must get some rest or you will really end up being very sick and have to stop running for longer. I grudgingly agreed, after feeling like an elephant is sitting on my chest all day. I should start to feel better by Sunday and for sure by Monday!! Richard, I didn't ask if I could lift. I will have to see how I am feeling. Have fun running this weekend!! I miss you guys!!!

I am from Norman, Ok. I graduated in 96 from Norman High school. I am not from around here although I sometimes play it off like I am. I am a true Sooner at heart!!

Breakfast: Oatmeal, with butter and Brown Sugar Splenda
Lunch: Bowl of chicken Tortilla Soup, corn bread, and a brownie
Dinner: bowl of chili
Weight check in: 161.5

Haha, I got tagged!!

I like this tag better than the other one where you have to back into the archives and so on. So here we go:
1) I met my sexy husband in a dance club in Deep Ellum (back when it was safer to go there). We chased each other around the dance club. I vowed never to date anyone I had met in a dance club, and then ended up marrying him. Who knew you could actually find a great person in a club. We will be married for 3 years on Jan. 25th.

2) I played volleyball for Texas Christian University for one year before leaving the program to work. You see, TCU is an incredibly expensive place to learn. I was merely a walk on and had no financial help. I had to work!! Yikes!!

3) My work ethic gets me into serious health trouble. I had to miss out on anything whether it is work or play related so I don't. Being sick is not an option!! I am pretty sick now and have cancelled all of my appointments today and going to the doctor!! I will let you more after I go.

4) I would love to take dance lessons some day. All forms of dance interest me, belly, ballroom, country western (even though, I know some already), hip hop, whatever! I love to move around and I love music so why not!!

5) Training for a marathon is more thrilling to me than the actual marathon itself. I love to go on long runs where I know the route and what to expect around every turn. I love looking at the sun rise and hearing nothing if I want or hearing just my music.

So there you go!! I will tag cliff, massage man running, mia, flatman, and mike. Welcome mike!! I have been so busy, so I am not sure if you all have been tagged already or not!!

Back on the Track again!!

This morning I fought with myself over whether or not to go to the track with the Plano group. After much contemplation, I decided that I should go. So I did. I did 6 x 800's ranging in time from 3:54-4:03. There were not very many people there, but that didn't matter much. I just wanted to run and get it over with. I feel good about what I accomplished today. I do think I might be relapsing with the whole cold thing, though. How long does this last?? I have sore throat, fatigue, congestion, and a headache. This is total torture!!
M1: EAS Protein shake, and an apple
M2: 1/2 cup Oatmeal (measured dry), butter, brown sugar
M3: Bowl of tomato soup, 2 cookies (this is of course on the do not eat list)
M4: Snickers (it just keeps getting worse!! this is what happens when I am sick, I have no control or discipline!!)
M5: Veggetable soup with added chicken, 2 Corn muffins (made with out flour, not that it means much since I had sugar and flour in the cookies earlier!!)

Susan my pics look great!! My profile is funny!! I have this funny expression on my face!! Heehee!! Bootcamp tommorrow???

The story

I actually ran the Chicago Marathon in 5:44, not 3:40. That's the joke. I had a really rough race and was incredibly disappointed at my results so to get a certificate in the mail with a great finishing time on it was hysterical!! The officials of the LaSalle Bank Marathon kindly sent me an email informing me that there was an error on my certificate. I thought, well no kidding. Shouldn't we get the true results that we really think that we deserve?? I trained hard enough to do better than 5:44, so why shouldn't I get a cert with a better time?? Hahahahha!!!

Food and Workout Log

This morning a few of us met for Buttcamp. Susan informed me that she almost brought a camara to share photos with all of you bloggers out there. She told me that Buttcamp is famous now. Hahahaha!! I am sooooo happy that my class is famous. Heehee!! It was good this morning, in fact it was almost a bit easy. It is just about time to change it up again!!! I wonder what we will do then?? How creative can I get?
I followed Buttcamp with a 3 mile run on the treadmill (30minutes).
M1 (4:30) Glucerna Protein Shake
M2 (7:30) 2 eggs, 2 egg whites, 3 pc. bacon (I can hear you now, Dr. P, it is not good for me!!), 1 green apple, Pumpkin dip, 1 piece of spelt toast with pumpkin spread on it, and a chi tea (with soy milk of course)
M3 (1:00) Chicken Sandwich (no bun, so I guess that it is just chicken), tater tots, Rootbeer with Vanilla
M4 (6:15) Protein shake, banana
M5 (8:45) chicken nuggets and fries (This is awful, but I was ravished after volleyball practice)

Feeling Guilty!!

So I have not run in like 3 or 4 days, eaten too much fudge and am unmotivated to do anything including blogging!! I feel lazy and lethargic!! I get this way about this time of year when everything gets too overwhelming to acknowlege. I choose to sleep through it instead of getting anything done. Flylady, running, general working out, nothing is getting done!! Thank you Susan for whipping me back into shape!!
I am unsure about 50 next week!! I do need to up my mileage soon though!!I think this might be more realistic for me:
Monday: Weights with Richard and 3-5 miles
Tuesday: Buttcamp (I am testing that afternoon, extra running is out!!)
Wednesday: I need to get back to track workouts (this is what made me soooo fast!!) 6 x 800's
Thursday: Bootcamp (I am testing again this afternoon, extra running is out!!)
Friday: 5-7 miles
Saturday: light mileage 3-5
Sunday: 15 with you guys!!
Total: 30-35miles

Food today:
Breakfast: 1 egg, 1 egg white, 3 pieces of bacon, 1 apple, Creamy maple pumpkin fruit dip
Lunch: Creamy Tomato Soup (homemade--not even a little bit healthy, I stole the recipe from La Madeline)
Snack: Fudge
Dinner: 2 corn dogs cooked in the oven
Snack: Protein Shake

When I am running, my food intake is stellar. When I am not running I think I just eat everything in sight!! I have had so much fudge today that I have the sugar jitters!! Yikes!! Not good!! I will get back on the wagon soon!! My weight can't handle this much junk!!

I love Buttcamp!!

Buttcamp was really good this morning!! We all worked really hard!! Dianne, Candi, and Susan we missed you!! Come back on Thursday!! I have become a human garbage disposal!! Yesterday I did not blog for I was embarrassed about what all I ate!! Today is better, but still bad!!
Dr. P my shoulder is killing me!! I think it is bicep tendonitis but I am not sure!! I have old coach's shoulder syndrome!! hahahaha!!
I want to run today, but not sure when!! I am loving being lazy!! I am not sure I want to run tomorrow morning, it is going to be incredibly cold and running on a track just doesn't sound appealing!!

Preworkout: Protein shake
Breakfast: 2 egg whites, 1 egg, an apple, 3 pieces of bacon (Dr. P, you don't have to explain, I know why it is bad!!)
Snack: Wheat and dairy free oatmeal chocolate chip cookies (too many of them, and I know the sugar is a problem!!)
Lunch: Bean soup, and white corn tortilla chips
Dinner: Corn Dogs (I think. Kevin chose this. I know, I know totally shameful diet these days!!)

Susan, I have volleyball tournaments on the same weekends as Houston, Austin and Cowtown. I hear ya, argggg!! I am thinking Surfside on Feb. 11th.

Check it out:
http://www.active.com/event_detail.cfm?event_id=1260720

It sounds kind of cool!! I really want to find a race to run in Feb. so I can run another in April or May!! What do you think??

On the road again!!

Our Sunday morning run started something like this: Richard walks up to me and says I should really get a jacket with sleeves. All I have is this fleece vest with a shirt under it. I just looked at him and said, this isn't a running jacket it is just an old windbreaker. I like it because it has pockets. (Although I forgot to zip them and lost my Power Gel, oh well. I didn't need it anyway). Susan comes out and says, do you think I need another layer over my tights. If I had been fully awake, I might have laughed at us. I love cold weather. I even enjoy a cold weather run, but it was really COLD!! We, Texans, are not accustomed to this kind of cold. It seems that we are not accustomed to any kind of weather: hot or cold. Heehee!! I had mentioned to Richard during our first mile that today was either going to be a really good run or a really bad one!! I kept up with those two running rockstars for the first 5 miles (47minutes) and then gave into my fatigue and started walking. Richard offered to walk with me and I told him to go on, that I was okay to walk on my own. I did sort of feel bad asking them to walk for a bit and then giving up just a few minutes later. I think I slowed them down by 10 minutes or so while I was trying to catch my breath and ignore my legs. Thanks guys for waiting for me. Sorry if I slowed you down. I know yall like to take shorter breaks!! I walked and ran a bit more and then a little bit more until I saw Richard driving up to me. I only had about 1/2 mile left. He was going to take me back to my car, but I insisted on continuing on. I knew I could do it and I did not want to quit under any circumstances. Giving up never crossed my mind. This was a new thing for me. A few months ago, I would have gotten angry that I could not keep up and just walked my cold butt back to the car. Today was different. I thought for a split second around mile 7 that I would and could just walk back. It would have been okay since I have not really run in 2 weeks. I've been sick right!!?? No!!!!! Not today. Today I wanted to feel really really positive about what I am trying to accomplish. Finishing time 1:46. Those are 10:30's baby!! Hahaha!!
What am I trying to accomplish?? I don't know yet. I want to complete 2 marathons this spring and lighten the load during the early Summer months. Which ones?? Not sure. Perhaps going back to OKC and maybe one on Feb. I am coaching 2 teams this year and more weekends are filled with volleyball tournaments than are not. I am going to have to get creative with my training schedule. I have one, I was going to share it with Susan but I have not really been following it so I did not share it. I need to devise a plan I can do. Susan want to work on it together??
Great run you guys!! I feel tired and achey. My thighs are screaming!! Dr. P did you do this when you were working with my TFL???
Preworkout: Soy protein powder and water with Glutamine mixed in (this tasted nasty!!)
Breakfast: 1/2 cup measured dry oatmeal, Parkay butter, Brown sugar, banana
Snack: Fresh unsweetened apple juice (I think a cup)
Lunch: Sweet potato baked, butter spray, cinnamon, and brown sugar, fresh sliced turkey meat (3-4oz)
Dinner: Not sure yet.
Weight check in: 164.5

Promised Pics from the game!!

This is Texas Stadium. The next time I will get the opportunity to go to a NFL game in Dallas we will have to go to the new stadium across town in Arlington. It hasn't been built yet, but I don't go to many games either!! We got there really early to get good parking, even though we had a pass that allowed us to park close to the stadium!!
Heehee, this is my husband cooking *man food*. Doesn't he look *manly* grilling on this pint size grill!! Hahahahaha!!! I had turkey and avacado for lunch that day. He made me carry my own cooler with my *chick food* in it. Hahaha!! Oh well!!
On the left is Kevin's dad and far right is my dad. What do you think, do I look like my dad??
I like butts!! Even better, butts in football pants!! Hahahahaha!! We were actually sitting this close!!

Go Cowboys!! Yay, we had a ton of fun!! Maybe we can go again sometime!! My dad was beaming all weekend long!! None of us had ever been to a NFL game!! At times, I think John Maddon may have helped me with what was going on during the game!! One bonus, I could see the ball, so I didn't get lost in the play fakes and so on!! :) What a girl thing to say!!:)

Food Log

I am not working out today!! I am going to give my body a chance to heal and get healthy!! I was running soooooo well before I got sick and I don't want to wait another couple of months to run that well again!! So here I am with all of this energy, well almost all this energy, and no exercise to do!! Hahahaha!! You know that you are adicted to exercise when you have a really hard time taking a whole day off with no exercise!! It is sad really!!
Breakfast: 1/4 cup oatmeal measured dry, Butter spread (no partially hydrogenated anything on the label), Sprinkle of Brown sugar, 1 cup sliced peaches (7:45)
Lunch: 3oz tuna, light mayo, 1/2 diced fresh tomato, 1/2 cup baby spinach torn, 1/2 romaine heart torn and mixed in with tuna salad, Tuna salad mix spooned onto a large Romaine lettuce leaf (like a lettuce wrap), 2 carrots with Fat Free ranch dressing (on the do not eat list, and probably has partially hydrogenated oils in it)--Hey does anyone have a ranch like dip recipe that is healthy???? I need to find something to dip carrots into. I don't really like carrots raw or cooked for that matter without something to dip them in. Oh well, I am sure if I really looked I could find something!! Just thought someone out there might have a suggestion. (11:45)
Snack: Protein Shake with soy protein, water, blackberries, omega's, strawberries
Dinner: Unfried chicken breast (spices, egg whites, and crushed corn flakes [no flour involved] baked in oven), Roasted red potatoes (tossed with olive oil, spices and baked in oven), green salad

Dr. Voodoo

My appointment was great!! My muscle testing showed that I have a viral infection. I believe it!! I slept most of yesterday and was way tired after volleyball practice last night. He gave me a herbal remedy that tastes more disgusting than the stuff he gave me to get rid of the yeast in my body!! Yuck!!!!! He was totally impressed with the lack of wheat and yeast in my diet and totally unimpressed with the amount of sugar in there. Oh well, I can't change everything all at once. I am not superhuman, although that might be pretty cool!! I still need to increase my protein intake and lower the saturated fat intake. Overall a great visit!!

Food and Workout Log

Preworkout: Chocolate smoothie (protein shake) 4:45
Workout: Tough Buttcamp today. It was not nearly as aerobically intense as it was just intense. In short it was hard. I will be pretty sore!! I am still ill. I cancelled my appointment last night at 8, due to the fact that I just couldn't muster any more energy to finish my training appointments. I felt bad though. I waited until she got there then told her that I was going to go home, a totally unprofessional move. I hope she understands. I hardly ever get sick, on average about once a year. Apparently I was pretty glassy eyed and really, really pale. My husband sort of freaked out when I came walking through the door looking like I did. I just went right to bed. I feel only a pinch better so far, but it is only 7:30!!! No running today. I am going to take the advice of my dear friend Richard, I will condition myself to rest today or until I don't rattle when I breathe!!
Breakfast: 1/2 cup oatmeal measured dry and stevia, hot apple cider
I am seeing Dr. P, aka Dr. Voodoo, today. We will see how things are going.
Lunch: (purely my intentions) 2 cups Organic Garden Veggie Soup, a few Rice Crackers (no wheat involved)
Dinner: Not sure yet. I will get back to you on that!!

Hey, Martin Arlington Volleyball team won state!! Wooohooo!! Way to go girls!! I love it!! They are on Good Day Dallas on Fox today!! Yippee!!!

Pre Workout: Chocolate Protein Shake (4:45)
Breakfast: 1/2 cup oatmeal measured dry, Pumpkin sread, Stevia (7:00)
Lunch: 2 cups Chicken Tortilla Soup (1:00)
Snack: Cashew Coconut Brittle (about 3 pieces) 4:00
Dinner: Spaghetti Squash, Pizza Sauce and sprinkle of Mozarella cheese (5:00)

Workout this morning was lifting with Richard. We stumbled through it and finished feeling like we could start the week. Hhaha. I came home and took a nap before working out the Dianne. I am still feeling under the weather. This cold or flu or whatever it is is totally taking me down. Susan and I made a great effort and attempt at running 5 miles. It took us a sad 1 hour and 4 minutes. We walked a lot. It was soo windy and cold! I love the cold but not the wind. I could not make my legs work today. I felt like I was slogging through mud about knee deep. Oh well, I must be sick still. My mind says yes, my body says what a minute here, you are not healthy yet. I guess I will have to rest a bit more before logging too many more miles.

I Love Pie!!

Thank goodness the pie is gone!! Yay!! I am coming home today anyway, so I think I could withstand a few hours before eating more pie. You never know though, I don't have any will power!! My only rationalization: It is the holidays and this is what you eat on the holidays!! Hahaha!! I have managed to stay away from all things with wheat in it, unless you count pie crust. That one slipped right by me. You know, like when you go to Mexico. You are told don't drink the water, but somehow you forgot about the ice that makes your drink cold. Isn't ice made of water?? And doesn't it contain the same nasty bacteria that the water has in it?? Hahaha!! I know my efforts were good. My intentions were even better. I did manage to run yesterday, only 3 miles though. I hitched a ride with my mom to the Y and ran on a treadmill in a gym that I swear could have been hotter than the Mobi desert (Is that such a place??). It was hot, really hot. Plus I had trouble avoiding the temptation to choke on all of the snot my body is producing. 3 miles is darn good if you ask me. I ended up showing my mom a few exercises that will "work on the areas that I need to change the most". I love showing people new exercises. It is like I am putting my creativity on display. Anyway, I swear I tell her everytime I come home that spot reducing doesn't work. Otherwise everyone would be chewing gum to reduce double chins. And those still exist, so it must not work!! Hahahaha!! Oh well!! Maybe someday she will get it.
My client A called me last night just make sure that I was coming to her birthday bowling party and that I was bringing my sexy husband with me. I was trying avoid telling her that I have 2 volleyball practices to run and sleep to get before she interupted me by saying "You must come, my whole family wants to meet you." Guilt. I am such a sucker and the biggest push over I have ever met. No, is simply not a word that comes out of my mouth. I need to learn the eligant art of saying that word without feeling so guilty. Vacation is over with. Welcome back to reality. I had a nice break. I am just sooooo sorry that I have been sick the entire week. If I had been home, I would have stayed in my pajamas the whole time. It was nice to get away from everything. No offense my dearest friends Richard and Susan. Everyone needs a break on occasion. We are having breakfast this morning and it is off to avoid rain as we travel home. It might actually snow in Ok this week. I am totally jealous. Did I mention to any of Y'all that I hate Texas??? It is too stinking hot and it never snows. Ok, only on rare occassions does it snow.
Breakfast:1 egg Scrambled, 1 apple sliced and 1 piece of spelt toast with cinnamon sprinkled over it.
Lunch: who knows, I will have to add to this when I get home.

My wonderful husband is summoning me to pack the mess I have created in the guest room. I must go.

Happy Late Turkey Day!!

I am in the land of low technology. Dial up service. I have not blogged due to this fact. It may even have a hard time publishing my entries today!! I am still sick. It is amazing how much snot the body produces. I have gone from totally stuffed up to really runny!! Yuck!! And I am losing my voice!! Yuck again!!
I have only run 1 day since I have been in OK. I plan to run today though. On Turkey day I snuck out and got a quick 4.25 in. Not nearlly as quick as my compadres (I have been sick!!!). I finished in 44:20 (10:30's I think). This is a guess, the dial up is too slow to check into it!!
Santa came early this year and I got a huge new TV. Welcome to the year 2005 Karrie and Kevin. It is so large, we don't think it will fit on the entertainment system stand we have. Oh what a terrible problem to have!!
My food intake hasn't been horrible, but not great either. Come on, I have to live right!?? I have only slightly held back from the fabulous deserts my family prepares every holiday!! Those who know me, know that I try not to endulge too much but during the holidays, I have pies and fudge. My dad makes the most incredible homemade fudge. We always gobble it up before it hits the table!! I definitely had my share of it!! Sorry Dr. P, I can't hold back!! I have been faithful with the Ginsing and Fungalytic!! My family laughs but is very supportive of my newest dietary overhaul.

Food and Workout Log

This morning I cancelled my workout with Richard. I think I must be the rudest person ever!! I cancelled at 4:45 am!! I was supposed to meet him at 5am!! Sad. I feel like poop. I have inevitably caught what ever garbage is going around. I can hardly swallow, my head might explode, my eyes are full of sand and I appear as though I have not slept for days even though I slept approximately 12 hours last night. Bleghh. I despise being sick!!
Yesterday I had the most amazing day. Starting with our run. Susan and I met and ran 10 miles. The same loop we ran last weekend. I wanted to beat our time. We did. We finished in 1:46 (10:30 somethings)!! I think that might be a PR for that distance!! Holy smokes we were running really well!! I went home and met up with my dad and husband. Somehow my husband came up with Dallas Cowboys tickets. They were playing the Detroit Lions. We had soo much fun!! I had never beent to a NFL game before!! It was totally cool!! About half way through my throat started hurting though!! :( I still had a great time!! Flow.
Breakfast: (8:30)
Protein Smoothie (mango, soy protein, strawberries), 1 small piece of spelt toast with Pumpkin Spice spread
Lunch: (12:15)
1 cup spinach, 1/4 cup diced tomatoes, Egg salad (1 egg, paprika, salt, pepper, thyme, minimal amounts of light mayo), 3 carrots sliced, 1 TBSP veggie dip (don't worry Dr. P, I don't have any more so this won't show back up), Protein smoothie (water, soy protein, chocolate syrup, peppermint flavoring)
Dinner: (5:30)
Shamefull!!
Wendy's 3 chicken strips, fries, and fruit punch, jolly rancher lollipop. (I am having the hardest time kicking the sugar habit!!)
No workout today.
I have full intentions on leading buttcamp tomorrow morning, I may not participate though. I will be there though.
I will be posting pics from the game tomorrow!! I am exhausted. I want to sleep now!!

Hello!!

This week has been so hectic!! I am back and need to get back on track with running and blogging!! This morning no workout, again. Blehhh!! My car was on the fritz and all of the sudden, so is my psyche!! "Mercury must be retrograde." This was what my friends Richard and Dianne said to me today. I just have felt like being a slug. I have listened to my body for 2 days now, I think it is time I take back over. Tomorrow will be usually rest day, again. Sunday back to the 10 mile loop with Susan. Richard has plans to sleep in. I can't remember the last time I planned to sleep in. Hahaha!! I don't any runner plans to sleep in. Enjoy your rest, Richard. See you on Monday!!

Hello, Everyone I am back!!

Did you think I fell off the face of the earth??? It feels like it. I have been soooooo busy this week, that the thought of blogging caused me to get behind in everything!! See, my family is celebrating Christmas at Thanksgiving due to the fact that my mom has to work on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day! That would totally suck!! She's a labor and delivery nurse. I suppose when women stop having babies on those days she could spend her time with us, but until then we will celebrate around her schedule. So my December shopping, wrapping, and giving is all happening this week!! Yikes!! I was so not ready!! Today was a day from hell, literally!! I must have a black cloud over my head. It should be sunny tomorrow morning!! It started with a dead battery or possible Alternator, who knows which one. Then went to my entire system at work crashing and then crashing again. It went from bad to worse when I had to tell the patient I was supposed to test that I would have to reschedule him. Ususally that is fine, but this time I was at new location I had never tested before and needed to make a great impression. I came off like a blubbering idiot who did not know what she was doing. The doctor and the patient was mad. We will be lucky if we don't lose this account. The only good part was that my boss, who at this time last year was giving me a hard time about not knowing the technical side of my job, couldn't fix the problems either. I got on my bike, which I rarely ride, and started on my way home. Before I knew it I had popped the chain off. Sorry to all of you cyclists out there if I have just used incorrect terminology. I nearly fell because I am still very new at getting my feet out of the clips when stopping. I remembered how to put it back on and get on my way when my phone rings. By now I am just getting even more angry. My husband picks me and I finally end my day at home with a great episode of Alias. Thank god my day is over.
No running today, but intead a 6 mile ride on my bike.
More later!!

Food and Workout Log

**Yeah, the Turkey Meatloaf came from Sprouts. I think I might love that place!!
Richard and I met this morning to weights and it pretty much sucked!! Neither one of us wanted to be working out. We sort stumbled through the whole thing. It was almost pointless, but I do feel a twinge in my thighs from the little bit of leg stuff we did. Oh well!! Hopefully it will be better next week!!
PreWorkout: (4:30)
1/2 a very large organic banana
Breakfast: (6:30)
1 cup measured cooked Rolled oats (organic, of course...hahaha), Country Crock, Maple extract (minimal, just for taste), Vruit juice (it has carrot, pineapple, apple, and other fresh juices in it..100%juice)
Snack: (10:00)
the other half of banana
Lunch:(12:00)
Egg salad sandwich served open faced on toasted spelt with spinach, sliced tomato, and celery sticks (hard boiled egg (1), paprika, onion, celery, minimal mayo[against the rules]
Snack: (2:00)
Protein smoothie (Supro Protein Powder from sprout, black berries, mango, and fresh squeezed OJ, with H2O)
Dinner: (4:30)
the rest of the Bumble Bee salad served over Spinach salad (baby spinach and fresh diced tomatoes--I am so glad these are no longer on the "don't eat" list!!), I also may drizzle a teaspoon of Olive oil over the salad.
Snack: (6:30)
Granny Smith Apple with Cinnamon sprinkled over it.

*I am scheduled to do a 3 mile tempo run today. I will more than likely do it this afternoon!! I am feeling sluggish this morning. Is it from the reduction in Carbs, or the switch from bad carbs to good ones??? I hope my regular energy comes back soon, I miss it!! Fake it until you make it right??

Food and Workout Log

This morning Susan and I met to run 10 miles!! I was excited to get out on the road again. She hadn't done very much running since the marathon, so she was only expecting to keep up. We hung together though. It is good to have my friend back!! We walked the first mile and ran the following 9. Actually the following 9 were walk/run miles, but we did really well!! We did the first 4 in 38 something I think, and finished the remaining 5 in 1:48. Not bad. My goal was to do 10 in 2 hours (12 minute miles). We finished just in time for that. I was proud of us!! I felt great and strong after the run. No dizziness or anything else weird!! Maybe Dr. Voodoo has something to his ideas!
PreWorkout: POS Shake (protein) (6:45)
Mile 5: Whole Banana(7:something)
Post workout: Bartlett Pear (9:45)
Meal 1 (after run): 3/4 cup oatmeal, 1/4 cup protein powder, Soy milk, Sugar Free Syrup (11:00)
Meal 2: About 10 Almond Chocolate Clusters (12:00)
Meal 3: 3/4 cup Bumble Bee Salad, 6 oz Sliced Turkey meat (2:00)

Food Log

Yesterday I did 3 x 1 mile repeats on the treadmill (9:30, 8:15, and 10:15). The last one I slowed down on due to an overshoot on time. I ran out of it!! Oops!! No running today, I will run 10 tomorrow!!
Today has been a fun day. I went to have Afternoon tea at this place near SMU, I think. It was soo cool!! I love tea and the fact that they make a dining experience centered around tea is even better!!
The wheat and yeast thing is not too bad, but still pretty tough!! I am working on it. I will get there!! If I can cut dairy and tomatoes out of my diet, I can cut wheat too!! I am hungry though. I will have to tackle this, if I get too hungry I will likely eat the paint of the walls!! I am sure this is on the "do not eat" list. I am starting to hate this list!! Heehee!! Hey Susan, is Sprouts really open?? I went by and the sign was up but it was just workers in there!! I will be so pumped if it opens earlier than projected!!
Breakfast: (7:30)--woke up around 7:00
1 cup Organic rolled oats (soaked overnight and measured cooked)
1 TBSP Country Crock Light (I will have to work on getting rid of this, it is only chemicals!!)
1TBSP Sugar Free pancake syrup (also going to have to work on the sweet cravings, but for now this is better than sugar, right?)
Granny Smith Apple
Lunch: (11:45)--probably needed to eat something in between, but no time, I was working
Tuna salad (I don't know what was in it, celery, tuna and possibly mayo--don't eat list)
**I scraped the tuna off of the bread it was on. This was particularly humiliating because my sister started just laughing at me and calling me crazy. She thinks I am going insane with all of this nutrition stuff!! I think because it is soooooo completely different from the way I used to eat!! Oh well!! She can make fun of me all she wants it won't make a difference!!
Apple (no other fruits were available, scones were the only other option)
Green Tea
Chocolate Brownie (Yup, you guessed it, do not eat list. I am sure you could probably guess why!! Heehee)
Snack: (4:30)--I did losts of shopping in between lunch and snack, I figured American Cookie Company is against the rules, so I did not have anything.
3oz. Chicken breast (left over from last night)
2 carrots
1TBSP Veggie dip (still against the rules)
2 small pieces of sausage
Dinner:(7:00)--Babe's Chicken
** We are going out for family birthday celebration. I have been trying to avoid this resteraunt from the time I had heard about it. There are 2 things on the menu:Fried Chicken and Chicken Fried Steak. There are 2 sides: Mashed potatoes and gravy, and Iceberg Lettuce salad. This is the ENTIRE menu. Heart attack city!! Wooohoo!! Actually it doesn't even sound appetizing. Yuck!! Grease, ewwww!! For the sake of the family, I will go. I will just be only in there asking for the salad dry and picking the skin off of the chicken!! I am sure it will be just as good!!

Dr. Voodoo

I went to the nutritionist yesterday and it was quite an experience. He told me all kinds of things about my diet like, eliminate the Baked Cheetos, and snickerdoodles, and oh yeah, you need a lot more protein. Hahahaha!! I figured as much. It was the strangest thing. He did muscle testing and placed viles of all kinds of things on my stomach to see if "my body" would accept it by being strong or reject it by being weak. The viles contained everything from chocolate to garlic on my stomach. It turns out that my body rejected wheat and yeast so strongly that Dr. P could not tell if anything else was there. He suggested that I stay away from dairy until we can retest. Tomatoes as it turns out are fine. He adjusted my lower back, upper back and neck (by the way he is also a chiropractor). The only thing I did not like was him adjusting my neck. I am hypersensitive with my neck. I left with a vague direction to take my diet in and a feeling that I had just left a voodoo doctor. My friend Dianne told me this is very normal for people who have never had this sort of appointment before. It was really not strange at all, in fact everything Dr. P did right on the money. She, I am assuming, either knows someone else that practices this or has had it done herself. Anyway, I have asked her for her guidance on beginning a wheat and yeast free diet. She is so excited at the prospect of a new challenge and I really appreciate her perspective. I am feeling like I can't eat anything but she sees as what else I can eat. It is funny how God works to bring people together. I agree with her on that!!
Now my diet today has been better or at least more along the lines of what Dr. P is looking for but still doesn't have enough veggies and proteing and I am sure it has too many carbs.
Breakfast 1:(8:00am)
1 cup organic rolled oats (measured dry)
Country crock light
brown sugar
Breakfast 2: (10:30)
1 egg scrambled
2 sausages
1 cup grapes (I know this is on the "do not eat" list, but I don't want to waste them--I finished them up)
Lunch: (1:00)
2 pieces of Spelt bread
1tsp Cashew butter
1tsp Blackberry Jelly (Yes, too much sugar--don't eat list)
2 carrots
1TBSP veggie Dip (don't eat list--due to mayonaise in the dip)
Pumpkin bread (don't eat list--it is the last piece)
Dinner: (5:00)
4oz Chicken breast with Tequila Lime marinade
Bumble bee salad (black beans, corn, red pepper, onion, cumin and coriander)

Weight check in:165!!

I am such a slacker!!!!!

Not only did I not blog yesterday, I could not drag my lazy butt out of bed this morning to do track work!! Two weeks in a row!! Yikes!!! My friend E has hurt her ankle and Susan is doing her own thing these days so I am left to my own demise!! I have to not hang out and talk volleyball with my other director on Tuesday nights so I can get to bed earlier!! 11:30pm is not early enough if I am to be at the track around 5 or so!! I just have to do better. I will get a nice run in early today!! I was supposed to do 7 x 800 so I should try to get at least that distance done and maybe somemore!!
Breakfast:(7:00)
1 cup Smart Start Antioxidant cereal, 1 cup Soy milk, 1/4 cup Blueberries
Snack: (9:30 or 10:00)
Apple (small Granny Smith) with Fat Free Caramel Apple Dip
Lunch: (12:00)
Turkey Sandwich (on Nature's Own Sugar free Whole wheat bread, 98%Fat Free Turkey, and 1/2 cup Baby Spinach with Light mayo), 1 serving Baked Cheetos, 1 Snicker Doodle Cookie
Snack: (2:00)
2 carrot sticks with Veggie Dip (1 TBSP)
Dinner: (5:00)
Left over Spaghetti and 2 pieces of Garlic Toast (Whole Wheat)

**This is what I am intending on eating today. We will see!! I am seeing the nutritionist tomorow, so I am feeling guilty and think I should eat really clean!!! Hahaha!!!

Food and Workout Log

Workout:
Upper body weights with Richard
Breakfast: (7:00am)
Frosted Flakes (1 heaping cup), 1 cup Soy milk
OJ (9:00am)
Lunch:(12:30)
PB and J sandwich, 1 serving of Baked Cheetos, 1 Large apple with Sugar free Caramel apple dip
Dinner: (5:00)
1 cup homemade spaghetti sauce (secret recipe, just know that it has tons of veggies and herbs in it), 1 cup Barilla Plus Angel Hair Pasta, 1 slice whole wheat garlic toast, 1 tiny slice of Apple Pie (it is my hubby birthday, I have to have some pie!!)

Afternoon Workout:
2 miles in 20 minutes. I struggle with the heat, is it ever going to go away?? (88 degrees, give me a break it is November!!) I was really dizzy afterward, but felt a lot better after about 5 minutes of rest. I just lied down on the floor under the fan and felt better quickly. I didn't take any blood sugar mesurements, perhaps I should have!!

The Half

I like this picture, particularly the toilets behind us!! So typical of runners, to take pics while standing in line to pee!! Heehee!! Actually we were just standing around, the potties just happened to be near the start line!!
(starting on the left) Carl, Richard's son finished fastest of all 3 of us. He had never run 13 miles before. He crossed the finish line in 1:31!! Wow!! Richard, in the middle, finished in 2:26. He was so happy!! I, on the right, finished the slowest as usual!! Look out Carl, someday I will catch you!! Or not...I don't think 7 minute miles are anywhere near my future!! Hahaha, I would settle for 10's!!

This was at the beginning of the race. There were somewhere around 5000 runners and walkers entered in the race. I think it is getting bigger and bigger each year! I don't have a picture of me yet of the finish line, my husband did not expect me to sprint across the finish line to beat the control top panty hose lady. She is this old lady who always wears panty hose while running. Sad that she consistently beats me so he missed the shot. I may order one from the people who took pictures professionally!!

Race Results

The Half, Dallas Texas 2005
I finished in 2:52 (13:09). Oh Well, I thought I stayed in the 12 minute mile range!! Wooohoo!! I PR'd. Hhahaha. Last Year I finished in 2:54. Heehee. Not that much better this year. I started getting really dizzy around mile 4 and it got worse as the race went on. I have to figure this out. My Blood Sugar was the lowest I have tested so far: 86. Post Race was 108. I need to eithger get over this or learn to ignore it better. It is killing my times!! I know I am capable of running faster. I will keep pushing through it!! Kevin my husband said that I am more pleasant to be around this year compared to last. I guess that means I am in better shape. I know that 10 minute mile is out there somewhere!! I will keep chasing it. I have pics to post, but later. I am off to take a nap!!

Food Log

Breakfast: (7:45am)
2 eggs (real ones, not the egg beater kind)
2 slices of Canadian Style Bacon (thinly sliced)
1 cup (8oz) Simply Orange Juice (100% Juice. Yes, I checked the label. Hahaha)
Lunch: (12:30pm)
Left over Sesame Ginger Stir Fry (I made it a home. 1/2 cup White long grain rice, green beans, broccoli florets, and carrot with Sesame Ginger Sauce)
Dinner: (6:45pm)
Mesquite Grilled Pork Loin (about 4 oz)
Mashed Potatoes (about 3/4 cup)
Spinach Salad ( I may not actually eat this, due to potential potty problems at the half in the morning. I have a bad history with salads before running. All kinds of salads result in desperate searches for toilets!! EEEEEEEKKKKKKK!!)
*I had 1/2 cup Fresh Green Beans (steamed), instead of Spinach Salad
Snack: I did not have all of this at once. Brown Rice Cake with Apple Butter spread, 2oz yogurt (1/2 of container thing), 1 cup of Gatorade endurance, 1 mini bag of microwave popcorn (not the good kind of course, the kind with movie theater butter on it)
*I took my Blood Sugar this evening to watch what it does before and after the half.
9:30pm: 96 (This is great!!)

Cofessions of a Candy Addict

Hello, my name is Marathena and I am a candy addict. I have not had a piece of candy in 24hours. Yesterday I had 4 Laffy Taffy's and 2 butterscotch hard candies.
I have 4 pieces left. I will save them for as long as I can, but I am an addict.

How sad!

Because I have run out of the life necessity snack desert I so desire (chocolate) I have searched my cabinets for a suitable substitution and came up with this: a Fortune Cookie. It did not even tap into the chocolate desires!!
*Promptness to go to a friend in adversity is appreciated*
How ironic!! This is very appropriate for my friend runnersusan!!

Food and Workout Log

Thanks for all of the feedback!! McDonalds breakfast and Halloween candy is the best. Robtherunner, your food habits are not rubbing off on me. I already had a sweet tooth, hence my blood sugar problem. Reguarding being "fast" I really don't think I am "fast" per say, but I am getting there. I am getting faster, but not fast. Heehee!! Thank you though. My bed is still making that sucking sound when I get out of it. It must be the time change. My only motivation to resist the gravitational pull toward the bed was the fact that I thought my new friend E was going to be running with the group this morning and I did not want to stand the group or my friend up. So I went only to find that she didn't come. Argh!! I could have used the sleep, I went to bed too late!! Volleyball has started and tryouts are in full swing. Hanging out with the other coaches will get me into trouble, seeing as how I get up so stinking early!! I ran anyway. It was good and challenging. I went to run the 4.89 mile loop in Plano. I hung with the group for like the first 20 minutes or so (my guess, almost the first 2.5 miles) and then I just couldn't hang. I dropped back and contemplated turning around. I kept going though. I was greeted with a gorgeous sunrise over the golf course this morning. It is still hot here. I guess I am just going to have to deal with it!! I live in Texas, should I be used to this by now??? No snow, No blustery wind, not even a slight frost on the grass?? Bleh!! Yuck!! Oh well, I am going to have to get over it!! I finished the 4.89miles in 52 minutes. I shaved 2 minutes or so off the last time I ran it on Monday!! Yipee!! (That was 10:30's for 5 miles straight!!). As usual, I had a great time and intend on comitting to the group and pay the yearly fee. It is a bit far to drive, but I think it is totally worth it. I upped my mileage this week. I have completed my first 30 mile week in almost a year!! Now that I think about it, finishing the Chi Marathon in 5:44 only running 2 days a week is actually quite amazing!! Moving on.
On a sad note, RunnerSusan's daughter has injured here eye ball with a jacket zipper. Apperently Kenza was goofing around and hit her eye with a zipper on her jacket. I am still waiting to hear something back! Susan will not be running the half this weekend!! I am afraid she is really discouraged about her post marathon performance. She has a lot going on right now anyway. She could really use the *rest* break. She will do well in Austin!!
I am off to eat lunch and take a nap!! I find myself *aggressively napping* a lot these days. *Aggressively napping* for me is setting a specific time of day to take a nap and staying there until I feel rested. Hahahaha!! It is a great habit but sometimes I feel like I am wasting the day!! I know rest is very important, especially when I don't get to sleep on time in the evening!! Reading back over this is making me nauseous!! I am so incredibly spoiled to get to have this kind of schedule. I love it!! I know a ton of people who would love to trade places with me!!
Blog on Friends!!
PS: I am seeing a nutritionist next Thursday!! I can't wait to hear what he is going to say about the candy and Mickie D's!!
Workout: Power Gel (6:00am)
Breakfast: Cereal with Soy milk, and an apple (8:30)
Lunch: 1/2 BBQ Turkey Sandwich, 2 carrots and Veggie Dip (I am officially out of chocolate candy, so that I don't know what I might have as a dessert, if I even eat anything for dessert) (12:45)

Food and Workout Log

Has anyone ever gotten out of bed and completely dressed to go for a run and stopped dead in your tracks only find yourself back in bed and the run not completed? That is what happened to me this morning. I was going to go the Plano and do track work. I got up around 5, got dressed and sat down on the couch to put my shoes on when I realized that I did not want to go running this morning. So I didn't. I went back to bed. Around 6:30 my husband woke me up and asked, "So what's your problem? No running this morning? It says on your planner 7 x 800m, so what's up?" I just looked at him. I was still completely dressed, except shoes, tights and all. I said that I was tired and didn't feel like doing track work today. He just chuckled and said, "That won't make you any faster." I rolled my eyes back at him and said "Okay, okay I am getting up". I went to the local HS to go run my 7 x 800's, but there was one problem...it was locked and I could not get in. I am thinking, it was meant to be. I should rest. Hahaha. As I am thinking this my cell beeps at me letting me know that I have a message. It was my friend Richard. He had a message from Susan that she was not coming this morning and he wanted to hitch a ride to Plano. Now my guilt is setting in. If I had only heard this when I was contemplating the track work at 5. I totally would have gone. So I called him back and found out that he had already done his work. So I set off to run a 5 mile tempo since I could not get into the track. I wasted too much time to run the 5 by the time I had gotten to the place I usually run. I thought great, pressure I can run better under pressure. I take off. I check my watch at 2 miles, 16 something. Holy smokes that is quick. I conquered this hill that consistently takes me down. I followed some advice a friend of mine gave me. I ran up the hill, knees high, trunk upright and over the crest and down the other side. I slowed down to turtle pace and then to a walk after I had gone over the hill. I was thinking to myself, stupid, stupid, stupid. I am tired. So I walked up the hill and back down it on my way home. I completed 3 miles in 29 something and then decided to walk the rest of the way home. Not really discouraged, I carried myself back to the car in 44 something to complete 4 miles. Hahaha. I should have listened to my body. I am tired. I had a massage this morning and my right arm is so out of whack that Richard spent almost an entire hour working on it alone. How sad!! I am glad that my running for the day is over. I need some rest. Tomorrow is upper body bootcamp and possible tempo run again. I like doing the tempos, it makes me feel like all of the track work is working. I just can't neglect the track work all together, it has made a huge difference so far. Friday is a group run, I hope. I am going to try to meet the group to run 5 miles. Saturday is rest day. Sunday is the half. I think Richard and I are going to try to do it together. Our pace goal is 10-10:30minute miles. That is very doable. I have to rest and eat right for all to be well!! I am going to pick up my packet tomorrow and start really getting down to eating and resting. I will hopefully be meeting with a nutritionist on Monday to learn!! Yay, I love learning!! Heehee!!
Workout: Spark
Breakfast: a shameful Biscuit Egg, Bacon, and Cheese, and a Hashbrown from McDonald's (shameful, shameful, shameful--oh well)
Lunch: Taco Soup and tortilla chips
Dinner: not sure

BTY: I had like 5 or 6 Reece's PB cups and 3 or 4 mini Almond Joys. I may have had more, I lost count. Accountability sucks!! Hahahaha!! Thanks, robtherunner for that!!

Food and Workout Log

Today I did lower body buttcamp. I feel great so far. I said the same exact thing last week and ended up sore. Oh well!! It was only C, B and I but it was great. We, all three of us, were totally dragging. Was it all of the candy??? Hmmmm, perhaps it was!! Hahaha!! I love Chocolate!! This is quite a predicament (how do you spell that?) since now I have to really watch my Blood Sugar!! Susan and I met over lunch to run 3 miles. She found a 2.5 mile loop instead. I was up for just about any distance. I feel good. We completed it in 23:12 (9:17 per mile). Wow, it felt great and like we were running slow!! It did not feel fast at all, that is what I meant!! Heehee!! Tomorrow morning is speed work with Plano group!! My goals for the next few days is: Sprint work tomorrow (7 x 800--ha, we'll see), Thursday upper body bootcamp and possibly another 2.5 mile run with Susan, Friday 4.89 mile loop with Plano Group, Saturday off (Rest, I love rest!!), and Sunday the Half. I can't wait.

Last night my husband asked me when I was going to run a race with my dad? I was like what??? My dad doesn't run, anymore. He told me that my mom had said that my dad wants to run a 5k with me. Oh my gosh, what? I immediately called my mom. This can't be true, she must have misunderstood, right? You see I have tried to get my dad to run with me for a few years, but to no avail. He is either intimidated or just doesn't want to, I wasn't sure. So my mom puts my dad on the phone and I asked him if this was true. It was!! How cool!! I asked him if he wanted to walk/run the Turkey Trot in OKC. He said he wasn't sure if he could do that so soon. The other thing you have to understand is that my parents are really young (he is not 50 yet). I told him that it is only 3 miles, we could walk most of it if he wanted and work up to another 5k over the holidays. I am totally pumped!! Woooohooo!!! I am totally looking forward to this new endevor!!

Workout: nothing
Breakfast: Cereal with Soy milk, 1 cup grapes
Snack: Candy (Chocolate candy, did I mention that I love chocolate????)
Lunch: Left over Taco Soup, and 5 saltines
Snack: Carrot with Veggie Dip
Dinner: More Taco Soup and Saltines

Food and Workout Log

Yesterday I ran or shall I say, walked, a 10k. It was pretty hilly. Susan, I have a friend that lives in that neighborhood and she said that she will do "hill" training over there. So it was not just us crapping out!! I admit that it was pretty tough. Right now I am struggling with my physical condition, but with mental motivation. I want to run, I feel great running, but I am finding myself lacking motivation to even get out of the door. Oh well, I will chalk it up to post marathon blahhh. I will push through it. I have the half on Sunday and Austin in Feb. I will get focused and the motivation will come. I really enjoy running with the Plano Group. I love it actually. I ran with E today and had a great time. Our time was not stellar, but we completed 4.89 miles in 54 minutes. That was an 11:03 pace. I will get faster. Tomorrow is buttcamp and possible 3 miles with Susan over lunch. I will have to see if I have any tests to run. By the way, my blood sugar is not low at all. In fact, it is high. Not horribly high, but it is still over the limit of what is normal. I am shocked that it is not low, but high. I seriously need more education on Diabetic food intake. I am seeing a nutritionist this week or early next. My fingertips are so sensitive right now. It was really hard to hang onto the lat pull down bar. Ouch!!
Blood sugar before workout or food (4:30am): 95
Workout: Lifting with Richard upper body only
I did not eat anything
Blood Sugar before running (still no food yet--6:30am):100

*Crap, I can't really eat too much candy any more. That totally sucks for a Chocoholic!! Sad!!

Dinner: not sure yet, I will enter this in when I decide
Before Bed Blood Sugar Check:

This whole Blood Sugar thing is quite fascinating. I am doomed for Diabetes. I just know it. I will do my best to control my diet even more. I am struggling with this, but I will do it because I don't want to feel the way I did after Chicago!!! I will keep you all posted!!

Food and Workout Log

This morning was a bit more track work. Susan and I went to the local High School track to meet another running group. No one showed up. I thought I'd just run around a bit, nothing too speedy (I already did speedwork on Wednesday). When no one came, I thought well Susan needs to do speedwork, I'll let her pace and I will follow. We ended up warming up with a slow 800, then ran 2 x 400's and 2 x 800's. Walked a bit and jogged a bit in between. I did not have any blood sugar problems, I drank a Glucerna shake during the breaks. That stuff is so thick, it gets caught in my throat. Uggghhh. But if it helps, then I will use it. I went later this morning (around 9:30 or so) to tempo run. I had initially intended on doing a 5 mile tempo, but realized I did not have enough time. I ended up doing 2.57 miles in 24:51. Not too bad. I am pleased. It is so hard to run by myself!! I also desperately need new music on my MP3 player. I am getting really tired of the Black Eyed Peas, as much as I love them. Any suggestions? I am somewhat of a rocker, but don't like to be screamed at.

Workout:
Glucerna shake
Breakfast:
Organic Rice cake with honey mango spread, an Orange, tea and splenda
Snack:
Yogurt made with soy (this is going to take some getting used to, it is well....different)
Lunch:
1 cup Tortilla Soup, Lunch bag of Fritos, 1/4 cup Sweet baby peas
Dinner:
I don't know yet...We are carving pumpkins tonight so it won't be too healthy I am sure!!

Weight check in: 166
Pace for the Tempo run: 9:40 a mile!! Yippee!! It is only going to get better from here!!

Food and Workout Log

This morning was Bootcamp. We did upper body weights with Cardio blasts. I really felt like it was more cardio intense today, but everyone else said it was about the same as Tuesday. Oh well. Becky and Candi are doing awesome!! This workout style is tough and they are doing great!! Hopefully they are watching their calories going in after such a great workout!! It is hard for me all of a sudden to keep my discipline with food these days, I am not sure why!! I will get it!! I found some old pics of myself and I cannot believe how I looked just a year and a half ago. Crazy!! I won't post them, I am too embarrassed. Plus I'd have to scan them in and then put them on my computer. What a pain. So I will spare you all the fat pictures!! Heeeheee!! Welcome to bootcamp Richard and Diane. It was nice to have you all this morning!! Susan, it was great to see you too!! And I am looking forward to running with you and the FM group on Friday morning!! I am going to do a double day today!! Day, Day, Day!! I am so redundant today. There it is again?! Hahahaha!! I am going to walk, run, or eliptical and watch Alias!! That is my fave show of all time!! I love strong women!! Go Jennifer Garner!! Even pregnant she is tough!! Hahaha!!

Yogurt (made with Soy instead of dairy), Apple

Food and Workout Log

This morning Richard and I went to run with the group again. Track work. I don't really like track work, but I know it will make me faster. Maybe I can keep up with Susan again?? Who knows. My goal this morning was to run 5 x 800m. I wanted to run them in the same amount of time as last week, 4 minutes. So we showed up and ran a slow 800 to get warmed up. It was really cold outside this morning. Anyway, I ran all 5 in under 4 minutes!! Yay!! They all revolved around 3:50's. Wow!! That was sooooo cool. I find myself getting excited to see if this kind of speed transfers to my longer runs. I hope so. Also I am quite sore from Buttcamp yesterday!!

I have eaten everything in site today!! I have to get it under control!!

My Buns are already sore!!

I have been deceived, I am actually getting sore from Bootcamp (aka by Susan Buttcamp) this morning!! I guess, if my butt is sore that means it is getting tighter which means that it won't jiggle?? Anyone following me on this one?

Food and Workout Log

Okay, yesterday I had 2 cups of Chicken noodle soup. I was really out of it yesterday!
This morning was Bootcamp day. Becky, Candi, Susan and I all met at 5 am to do lower body weights with cardio intervals. It was not too bad. It was good. I probably won't be sore, which is a good thing. I want to do some hill sprints today, but not sure I should because I am doing track work tomorrow morning. I am trying to follow the hard/easy principle. If I do hills today and track tomorrow it will hard/hard? Maybe I should wait until Friday to do hills. I don't know. I am so indecisive these days. Welcome back Susan!! Thanks for a great workout this morning guys!! You rock!!
Breakfast:
99%Fat Free Toaster Waffles (2), Butter (Country Crock Light), and Sugar Free Syrup, 1/2 protein shake, and Grapes (1/2 cup)
Lunch:
1 cup Chicken noodle soup, Saltine Crackers, 2 carrot sticks with veggie dip, and 1 pumpkin spice muffin, 8 oz. Orange Juice (Fresh squeezed)
Dinner:
Shredded BBQ chicken Sandwich and Oven Tater Tots (15 or 1 serving), Pumpkin Bread

**Susan, are you going to do the metric half in FM? And, do you want to do a short run on Friday morning (3 or 4 miles?)?

Food and Workout Log

Workout this morning was a lame lifting session with Richard. We were both so sleepy faced that our workout was somewhat a waste of time. I think I may have benefitted a bit more sleep instead of a light lifting day. Oh well, I am sure that there was some benefit to pushing through a workout. Sorry Richard I was really tired this morning and feeling a bit under the weather.
Breakfast:
Mini Wheats cereal with Soy milk and protein powder sprinkled over it, 8oz fresh Apple Carrot juice and hot tea.
Lunch:
2 cups (oh yeah, you know I measured it out), 6 saltines, 2 spice cookies, and a handful of gummy lifesavers
Dinner:
Chicken breast with Italian seasoning and olive oil, mashed potatoes, and baby sweet peas.

Brrrrrr, It was chilly this morning!!

This morning I set off on my own to run the Waterworks 25k. I had great intentions and my mind has been in the right place all week!! I did well. I finished in 2:43. Not so shabby coming off of Chicago so soon. It was windy and cold. I don't think Thruston Racing Group expected so many participants. I think there were like 450 or so. Maybe it was the weather. I don't know though, I had to park like a half mile away from the start. Also there were only 4 potties, can you just imagine the line?
I feel great, other than well..... the whole my legs are exhausted thing. I kept telling myself: Oh get over it, it was 2 weeks ago. But my legs had another idea of what they wanted to do today. Walking was wonderful. That felt good. I would just run until my legs were tired, then I walked. It was so windy that the lake reminded me of the ocean with the waves crashing ashore. I imagined that I was on the beach somewhere tropical. Not Cancun though, those poor people.
I tried some new things this morning on my quest to keep my Blood Sugar under control. First, I actually ate a bowl of cereal with Soy Milk before leaving the house at 6am. (Race time was 7:30). I took Power Gels with me but did not use any of them. I chopped a Luna bar up and carried it with me. No Spark, Muscle Fuel, or V16. I munched on the Luna Bar throughout, but had finished by mile 5 or so, I was sooooo hungry?? Could this be from the cereal?? Perhaps I woke my metabolism up too early this morning. I also carried water and 1 small bottle of Endurox with me. I finished the water, and took some from the stations as needed, but never felt sloshy. I did not finish my Endurox. After the race I did not have the regular bottle of water, instead I had a Diet Coke (I realize that this was not the best choice, but I deserved it!!). I sat down long enough to eat an apple, instead of the usual banana. I did not have any dizzy feelings or feelings of shakiness, lost, or disorientation. I am tired now, but not exhausted. I think I might be getting a handle on this.
All in all it was a great morning.

*I am going to have this to eat:
Lunch: Baked Potato Soup and Saltines
Dinner: Not sure yet.

Food and Workout Log

Workout: Track work. I met with a new group this morning. I had so much fun. I feel like a rockstar!! I sort of just showed up. Now, I have tried to join running groups before on track days and always ended up more discouraged than inspired. I was only slightly afraid that this would happen, so I showed up anyway. I need to find a group to run with. What could it hurt anyway? I also need the work. I was lost a bit when trying to find the location but thankfully a good person pointed me in the right direction. I found the group. They were all standing in the dark on a track. I couldn't really make out any faces, but approached anyway. Brave soldier, I know, I didn't really know what I was walking into. So I ask if they were part of the group and they all answered with a response like "yeah, who are you?"I told them who I was, am, and that I might be interested in joining the group. They all just laughed and said, "All you have to do is show up and you are part of the group." So I smiled back and said okay. A women off to the side said I just got here too, I will warm up with you. And just like that I found myself "part of the group". No one left me, some despite their own pace hung with me just to get to know me. Some are marathoners, some just like the work, some are 5k 'ers. It was a mix of people. I completed the warm up (a slow easy 800) and waited to see what's next. I figured I would just do what ever they were doing. I quickly found out that they were all doing different things ranging from 400's to 1 mile repeats. I knew for sure that a 1 mile repeat was not going to be an appropriate choice. I am just not there yet. A 400 seemed like the wiser choice, after all it hasn't hardly been 2 weeks yet since completing the race in Chicago. I did my first 400 in 1:53. I am thinking to myself, this is too easy. So we milled about trying to recover and then got ready for the next one. They like to ask everyone what distance they are doing, so when it came to me, I quickly shouted out 800. I didn't even give it a thought. Immediately I began questioning myself. What was I thinking? I don't like sprints and I am not even sure if I can run an 800 without crapping out before finishing. I had my MP3 player on so I could not hear everything that was being said. I sort of like to tune out life when I am running. It is my time to escape. But I heard mumbling and just like that everyone took off. Before even realizing what was happening I was behind. Oops. Here is a bit of history about me: I am a volleyball player, that is what I did in high school and part of college. I have never run track or been competitive in track. This sort of training is somewhat foreign to me. Some of the women in the group, actually almost all of the other women, were faster than me despite my starting behind everyone. I made every effort to hang with them, but they were just much faster than me. The second time around, I turned my music off to hear what they were saying. We all lined up again and announced our sprint of choice. We are all standing there hands on our watches and leaning forward like we are at the beginning of a major race. It was probably pretty funny looking. I heard someone say: 5, 4, 3, 2, go and we all took off. I started with them and lagged behind quickly, again despite my efforts. The second time around I noticed that my legs are tired and my lungs kind of hurt. I just kept chasing after everyone in front of me. I can hear the women in front of me cheering me and each other on. I think, wow this is really cool. I don't think I have heard that before. In races, I usually see my husband cheering me on then I run up to him and we chat for a brief moment, but this was different. I found it extremely motivating. These people whom I had just met are cheering me on by name. Cool!! I check my time as I finish: 4:04!! What??? Can't be?? How?? Not sure. So I am milling about trying to catch my breath and eating a Glucerna bar, remember the Blood Sugar thing. I feel great, other than breathlessness I am fine. No dizziness, no drunk feelings. We line up for the 3 time around (my 2nd 800) and again announced our sprint of choice and took off. I think announcing what distance you are running is kind of funny, but it is accountability at its finest. I push myself through my 2nd 800, and check my watch after finishing: 4:05!! OH MY GOSH!!! What??? Two times in a row?? Holy smokes, this is cool!! Again with the wandering around and eating the Glucerna bar. At this point my legs are tired. I am beginning to think I am finish when someone walked up and said, how many more are you going to do? I answered, "don't know, how many more is everyone else running?" She rattled off "oh I think so and so is going to do a few more, do you want to stay?" I said sure, but I am not sure how many more I can do. I am game for 1 more. So we lined up again, made our announcements and took off. My legs felt like molasses. I am definitely slowing down. I thought, I made for 2 800's, that is 2 more than expected I can slow down and finish knowing that I worked really hard. So I stopped chasing everyone and just ran. I finished and checked my watch: 4:05!! I am in total shock. I am so pumped!! I walk off the fatigue and another lady said "another?" and I quickly said I don't think so, I am tired. 3 is good for me for right now. So she said, if you watch and cheer for me for one more, I will do a cool down with you. I am thinking cool down? I never really cool down. So I said okay. I cheered her on and she was like "I need someone like you to cheer for me more often, it really helped. Thank you." I failed to tell anyone that coaching is second nature to me. I love to give encouragement in any way I can. We cooled down (easy 800) and chatted some more. I hope to be able to run with them again. I had a great time!! I did not have any dizziness or disorientation at all through the whole thing!! Yay!! I think munching on a Glucerna bar throughout the workout was great!! I also took about a teaspoon of Glutemine (protein supplement). When getting in the car I drank a Glucerna shake. I was shakey, but not dizzy so I wondered if it would help. It did. I still need to check my Blood Sugar levels, but this was a breakthrough. I felt great. I am recovered already. I don't think I need to run anymore today, but I am not exhausted.

Food and Workout Log

Workout: 1 hour bootcamp. This workout was very high intensity. Candi met me and we went through it. I still need to work out some kinks, but overall it was a great workout!! Susan, we missed you!! My arms are jelloey!! I plan to do some running this morning before getting ready to test today. I am going to call it "Heck yeah I like hills" day. I plan to do 4 McKamy hill repeats. I will run up the hill and walk down it. So like I said: Heck yeah I like hills!! I will not be beat by the hills in the half coming up in a couple of weeks!!
**Update: Heck yeah I like hills!! I was reminded of how much they actually suck, but I will keep telling myself that they are great!! I did four repeats!! I ran down one hill and back up the other side. I rested 1 minute in between each one, except for the last one. I had to pee. Lucky for me they are building a new housing addition so there were an abundance of port o lets. Hhahahaha!! Wow! My legs are recovered from the marathon, I think. I feel strong. I did have a little bit of the dizzy feeling after the hill sprints, but it subsided quickly and did not get lost or disoriented. Hallaluia!! I think I can keep the blood sugar thing in check with the Glucerna shakes until I have a definitive answer of what is going on!! If it doesn't work, I will keep experimenting!! I know there is an answer!! I will find it!!

Dinner: Pork Roast and veggies (cooked in seasonings in the slow cooker). I love using the slow cooker, it is so easy!!

Chi town was great!!

Oh my gosh, I have soooooo many pics to share with you all!!
So, I had a great time in Chi town!! Kevin and I left on Thursday evening after work. We dropped Nikko off in Norman with my family!! We arrived late and it was so cold!! I loved it!!
We stayed in Tulsa on Friday night then arrived in Cal City on Friday evening. Kevin, Gramps, and I hung out for a while before going to Aunt Bonnie's to say Howdy!! Saturday morning Kevin, Gramps, and I went to a local resteraunt to load up on Fuel. I had 3 pieces of French toast made with wheat bread and egg beaters. It was yummy!! After we ate, Kevin and I headed to the expo where there was a ton of stuff to look at!! It was a bit overwhelming but very organized.
The clock running here displayed the time left before the marathon started.

After going to the expo Kevin and I headed over to a suburb of Chicago to watch his cousin, Jessica (pictured below), play in a volleyball tournament. I know what some of you are thinking, don't I get enough volleyball at home??? Well, no. I had a great time and it was a fantastic way to hang out with more of the family. Below and to the left is Aunt Bonnie and Conner (Brianna's baby boy).

To the left is Gramps and Conner. Below is Brianna and Conner. We are all still at the Volleyball Tournament.

When Kevin and I left the tournament, we had just enough time to change clothes and head out to the Italian Village. I think it is one of the oldest Italian resteraunts in Chicago. Here we are crammed in a tiny booth. The whole place was packed. Here is Kevin, me, Susan, and her friend Kate. Below is a picture of Chi town before sunrise.

Sunrise on race day. I love watching the sunrise. There is something very special about the beginning of a new day.

Start Line. Can you believe all of these people??
44,000 runners were present on this very exciting day!!

Here we are at the start line. This was just about the last time I saw Susan. It was so crowded!!

To the left is somewhere before mile 2. Below is mile 2, I just don't know how rotate it around.

Somewhere around mile 3 or 4, it is still crowded!!

I loved this part. It is after mile 7 or so. I loved the trees. The whole course was somewhat shaded. There was a cold breeze almost the entire time. I shedded my layers a bit too early. I got cold and stayed cold the whole time. It was totally worth it though!!

Look, there are still a ton of runners around me.

I saw Kevin at the half way point. I was sooooo happy to see him. I was lonely by myself!! I made it half way!! To the left was a pic I took off of a draw bridge. Isn't it post card like??I loved it.

The crowd was starting to spread out here, but notice it is after mile 15!! Whoa!!

This on the left is US Cellular Feild (or Kominsky field--where the Sox play). We were really lucky that the Sox swept Boston, otherwise the race course would have been very different. Game 4 would have been on Race Day. Below, mile 24, I am almost there!!

Here I am on the left at mile 25. Some stranger was kind enough to take my pic. Below is me after the finish!! I am totally disoriented and confused. I think my blood sugar was dangerously low, because I was really lost. I was not sure where I was or where to go. I have never felt that way before. It was scary!! The finish area was very long and there were a ton of people!! I could not find Kevin or Susan. I was looking but was lost. I somehow came up with an apple and a bottle of water. Finally when I could not find anyone, I just sat on a curb and ate my apple. I was very, very disappointed in my time. I finished...yes...but in 5:44:42. My goal was 4:30. I am not sure what happened. Blood Sugar problems??? Not sure. That kind of thing runs rampant in my family. It was the first thing my mom said when I told her how disoriented I was. My foot was dying!!! I could hardly put any weight on it. Plantar Facitias (how do you spell that).. SUCKS!! I thought it was better, guess not. But in hindsight, I FINISHED and faster than Austin in Feb. 2005.
Here we are saying goodbye to Gramps. We don't get to see him very often so we wanted to take advantage of the time together.

Oh my gosh. On the way back from Chicago, somewhere around Missouri we saw the the Oscar Meyer WeinerMobile!! I have never seen it in real life!! We laughed for an hour or so!! HeeHeee!!

I love road tripping with Kevin. He drives, I ride. The landscape is just gorgeous!!

It is just a shame that our Texas government insists on cutting down trees!! This is still Missouri!! It is so beautiful!! I didn't want to rest, I was afraid I would miss all of the trees!!

When we got back to Norman, Kevin and I waited for my dad to get off work and we went to eat. We went to Charlestons and all my parents could say was that I had just run "The Chicago marathon". They were so proud. They told everyone from the hostess to the busboy. Sorry about that if any of you are out there. I ate the biggest Prime Rib steak. It was sooooooo good. I don't normally eat red meat, but I just felt like it on Monday night. The funny thing about running a marathon, is that you can eat an 8oz steak, salad, bread, and mashed potatoes and not feel very full!! Crazy!! I had a great time and would not trade my experience for the world. I just wish I could have performed more like I had trained. So you may ask, What's next? The Dallas Half on November 6th!! I plan to have a very good time. I am in search of a group to train with.
