No Buttcamp!!

This morning at about 4:30am I sat on my couch and called all of my buttcamp buddies and cancelled on them. I feel bad, but I needed the rest and my left foot is very painful!! It has been bothering me since just before Christmas, but today it feels worse. It is actually swollen and a bit difficult to walk. I think it is time for a solid day off from exercise. I am icing and taking anti-inflamitories and stretching. It should be significantly better tommorrow!! If it is like the other times my right foot has given me trouble. I might go for a bike ride (wait did I say that I should take a day off??).
I am running one test today on a cancer patient. I am bit nervous. This is a first. I have tested several very sick patients but none that are going through chemo while I test them. EEEKKK!! It should be fine. I am told it is not any different that testing a regular patient. We'll see!!

Still looking for info on the Shinerbash Century ride. And also some protein advice from yesterday's post.

Short Slow runs are fun too!!

Yesterday and today Susan and I met for 5 mile runs. We went into them thinking, yeah 50 minutes or so should be good, but 1 hour and 6 minutes later we were just glad to socialize and get the miles in. I am thankful to have my friend back. I miss Richard though, he decided to sleep instead of lifting. I got a good workout in though. I am attempting to detox and/or cleanse, but I am finding it very difficult. I am hungry and tired and craving sugar like I have craved it before. Also, I cheated already. How do you start something so motivated and just like that, oops I found myself eating hershey kisses. Only about 10 of them though. Oh well, I will just try to keep on track. Does any Nutrition buffs out there know the RDA for protein intake??? I always thought it was .5g-1g per KG of bodyweight?? Is this incorrect?? Dr. Voodoo wants me to get more in my diet, but I feel very differently. I am afraid that he is asking for too much protein. I am quite concerned on this. Also, he is reccommending a lower carb diet, but for some unknown reason I eat almost no carbs lately (I'm not counting carbs you get from fruits and veggies--I don't eat many potatoes or corn). My energy is flat and running slow. I think this might be due to low iron levels and lack of carbs in the diet. My friend D has been doing Manuel Lymph drainage on my legs and noticed a very distinct difference between my right and left legs. She told me this morning that she learned in her recert class over the weekend that sometimes if you have too much protein in your body, you are at risk for higher fat prolification (more fat storage around the problem lymph areas--ie my left leg). Huh, interesting. I am curious about this. I have just put it into writing to notate it more than anything. This week's goal is to continue to bring down my stress level and maintain everything (161lbs, 5 miles daily base mileage, and 3 days lifting). I am trying really hard. I will do it. I am fired up about the springtime like weather. It makes me want to be outside although I fear the heat that is inevitable. Oh well, I will enjoy the cooler days for now.

Ahhh, what a better week!!

As I am running and telling Garmina about my emotional funk we quickly hit the halfway point in our 5 mile run. It really felt great to run with someone again!! I have worked really hard this week on my mileage. This is the highest mileage week I have had since volleyball started!! I think I will hit 30!! Wooohooo!! Thank you Susan for running with me this morning!! I am really glad you didn't cancel, even if we did finish slower than goal. I don't mind, just getting out there was an accomplishment!! We finished in 56:53, slower than normal, but whatever. Given that we talked for 2.5 miles straight, I'd say that was a great pace. Those are 11:23's. Hum, we did it!! I was able to find that wonderful place when we were running this morning. It was so peaceful and there was no stress there!! Ahhh!! Maybe that is why I feel better!! After we ran, I sat in the parking lot and just meditated a bit. I watched the clouds go by and tried really hard to quiet my mind. It was wonderful!!
I want to ride in the Shinerbash Century Ride. Anyone out there know how to register for it??? Do I have to be a Team in Training participant??? I need help all you cyclists out there!! Anyone from Austin area that may want to share tips on this ride might be helpful as well!! And....what is the conversion from running to cycling?? I have heard different things....60 miles on a bike is the equivalent of a marathon, and/or 5 miles on a bike=1 mile of running??? Help, I want a new challenge and a bit of a change but am so incredibly novice on 2 wheels!! I know you guys can help!!
Also, anyone in the Dallas area know of a laid back, no hardcore cyclist yet please, groups to ride with?? I don't want to jump into hardcore yet, I am not ready. I need a group that is sensitive to beginners!! I want it to be fun, relaxed, and invigorating. I am not ready for cut throat racing.

Catch up!!

Yesterday I went solo for a 5.1 mile run. I finished in 55 minutes (10:47's). Sad, slow, but I got it done. The new course I have been doing is hilly!! I don't think I will run it over the summer or when it gets hot. There is no shade and quite a bit of traffic. I want to keep at it and break 50 minutes next time I run it. It was a nice run though. I felt pretty good, my legs burned from the hills.

This morning I went to Buttcamp with B. We are still plogging along with this format. My right knee right under the kneecap is a bit wanky this morning. I am not sure what is up with that. Weather change?? My left plantar fascia is really sore too, maybe from the jumping at volleyball? We did not do any plyo's in Buttcamp this morning. I went for lower impact cardio intervals. Since Massoman has been opting out on Monday lift days, I need the Bootcamp days just to get my lifting in. Kudos to those who are motivated to go to the gym witht the intent to lift. I get distracted and unmotivated. Odd, but true. It is only odd because it is not like my personality to be unmotivated in a gym. I like to lift with friends, it is more fun.

I am seeing Dr. Voodoo today. I think I have gotten my diet back in order. I just want to check in and make sure I am still on track. I need that accountability right now since things are so hectic. I also need an iron supplement. I am low. I can feel it and see it. I am pale, fatigued (more than I think I should be despite everything I am doing!!), and I wear out fast during my workouts. Ding, Ding, Ding, I am iron deficient!!! Hahaha, at least I can make a joke of my health.

I am off to have a great day of rest (no tests, no clients and I am playing hookie from volleyball so my husband and I can celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary!!). I want to chase that 50 minute 5.1 mile loop and go for a bike ride! Then I think I will be like a cat and just lay around!! It sounds so wonderful!! Have a great day everyone!!!

I am so glad the weekend is over!!

Is this normal?? To be glad that the week is starting? Oh well, my weekend was filled with more stress. I think I might implode with all of this going on. I did not get to run this morning, it rained pretty hard. Richard called and cancelled. I slept in. We all, runnersusan, massoman and myself planned to run tomorrow morning and wouldn't you know it, my Jeep battery is dying AGAIN!! I did not park it in the garage last night and this morning I got stranded at Blockbuster. I hitched a ride with my sis to practice and Kevin has been working on all evening. He can't quite figure it out. So I am going to the Y bymyself to run on the treadmill, wait for a client, lift, wait for a few clients more, ride my bike to the office, test 2 patients, ride back to the Y, train a couple more clients then have Kevin pick me up. I can't handle all of this!! I must slow down, some how, some way!! I will do it. I have kept to my boundries for volleyball, I guess I need more to stay grounded. I am going insane because I am so busy!! I will get over it, I need to get over it. Things will get better!!

By the way, did I mention that it rained today??? Yay!! Richard and Susan, I miss you both dearly!! I am sad that I am not training with you guys as much!! I hope to get back to it soon!!

Could I eat anymore food???

I am so with you Susan, I too have gone off the deep end nutritionally too!! I am stressed to the max, and I have not eaten very well. I know that is not helping my stress, it only contributes to it.
I was just reading Boingo's blog (I think that's it) and saw his invitation to the Boston Marathon. I must admit, I felt the slightest twinge of jealousy. I say that and then stress some more because I have only run like 5 miles this week, and I have eaten enough food to feed an army!! Oh well, this too will pass. I am sure of this!! Congrats Boingo!!!

Maybe I will get some running in tomorrow morning??? I have as always a jam packed day!! It is full of Bowling with my middle sis, then getting ready for a bridal shower I have planned for my youngest sis. We have not been getting along very well lately. There are just some things that she doesn't get. We have the party in the evening and I have planned a somewhat healthy menu. We will just see how it goes!!
It is time to watch the Wedding Crashers with my hotty hubby who thinks I work too much!! hahaha, he might have a point.

Heck Yeah I can run fast!!!

Today I went to the track for speed work. My goal was to do a minimum of 4 x 800's. I ended up doing 4 x 800, with 5 x 400 in between. The 400's were active recovery, so I just didn't go fast. They were more like speed walking, but hey what's the difference? My legs would not let me do those as fast. My 800 times were: 3:48, 3:56, 3:46, and 3:58. Wow!!! That was fast!! I hope next week I can do 6 x800 and maintain those times!! Tomorrow is bootcamp and a bike ride. I am not sure how far, it will be beautiful out so I plan to take full advantage.

SPD clips? Shoes?

Which one is it? Anyway, Clif they are SPD. I have gotten pretty good at getting my foot off of the clips. I went today to ride 10 miles or so with my friend who would otherwise like to be known as the AARP eligible friend. We were followed around by a couple of teenagers in a yellow Jeep Wrangler. It was actually quite funny!! Hahahaha!! We joked sometime between the 2nd and 3rd time we saw them that they just thought we were hot!! Hahaha!! It was a great ride anyway. No running today, just training and cycling. Tomorrow will be buttcamp and maybe some running!!

Running Slow!!

This morning I snoozed right through to 5:20!! I was supposed to meet Susan and Richard to run a 10 mile loop. I called Susan and told her not to wait for me, that I would not make it in time!! Richard goes to church on Sundays and I did not want him to be late. I know that is important to him. So I slept in and then went out on my own. I did a slow 7 mile run (11 minute) pace. My body feels weak. I can tell that I have not been running as I should be. I have a plan to get better at this.
I will turn my phone off at 9:30 or 10:00. I will not accept any calls after that time. I will do my very best at getting to bed on time. I will leave Thursday night practices early--I don't need to hang out with the other coaches. I am actually going to try to move Thursday practices to 7:30 instead of 8:00. 30 minutes will make a difference I am sure!!
Oh well, I got my run in even if it was slow!! My course was hilly and windy!! I will do better next weekend!!

I love Volleyball!!

There is nothing like lighting the fire under my already ferocious competitve spirit like volleyball season!! Today we played in a tournament and did not play as well as we did last weekend!! (my 16's). This team is harder to coach than the 14's last year were. Is it because they already know how to do everything? I am merely a cheerleader who is just lucky enough to stand on the sidelines!! Hahaha!! I know that is not how they see me, but it sure feels that way sometimes!! I realized today that I may not be hard enough on the girls. I am not "direct" enough with them. I am not sure I know how to be harder with out being mean or downright yelling at them. I like to save that for when I really need it. I don't need it everytime the ball goes down. Coaching is my passion for those who don't know. I love to coach. It is hard, frustrating as heck, and I love it. From Thanksgiving until May 1st, I am consumed with what to do next, how to do it better, and if we are improving our skills. My sister has the team I took to nationals last year and they are very good. My 16's I don't think are as good. Right now, my sister is more successful as a coach than I am and I CANNOT STAND THAT!! Don't get me wrong, I love my sister, she is my best friend, but my competitiveness does not want her to be more successful than me!! Now, I realize that I made her team what they are now last year, but still I hate being outed!!!! Oh well, I am hoping that won't last long!! Last weekend my team finished 12th out of 34. This weekend so fare will not finish in the top half of everyone else!! We will finish in the bottom 20 or so. I am hoping somewhere around 20, but we will not finish better than than that due to the fact that we lost today so many times. I am done venting now!!

Tomorrow morning I am finally getting to run again!! I am meeting runner susan and massoman for a 10 mile jaunt. I am fired up about that!! Maybe I can run some of my competitiveness out and get focused for bracket play in the afternoon!!!

I have a friend that gave me a TNT pamphlet and told me I should train for the century ride somewhere!! I passed it off as a joke at first seeing as how I am terrified of falling because I am not very good at getting my shoes off the pedals (I have clippless pedals), but now I am actually thinking about it. I may make her go to an info meeting with me!! Haha. I am afraid I don't have time to fundraise for it. It would be fun to try something new!!! I love running though. I will always be a runner!!

I have got to go to bed if I am going to be of any use tomorrow!!

New Year's Eve Pics

All of us at the comdedy club!! Me, Kevin, Jesse, Jon and Jen.
I found these just sitting on a drum set so I thought it would be really funny to make Jen wear them!! Doesn't she look funny??
Kevin and I before the show!!

Jen and Jon before the show. Jon was being particularly honory, (is that how you spell that?) and did not want to cooperate for the pics!! He kept making these silly faces. This was the best pic!!

Happy New Year!!

I am so sluggish today!! Yesterday I went for a 9 mile run (1:37--10:47's) and then met a friend and rode like 18 miles on our bikes! I had a great time, but my legs and body is so tired. My calves are sore, but that is about it. Everything else is just stiff. It will get better!!
We rang in the New Year last night at a comedy club. We had such a great time!!
The majority of today has spent on sleeping. We got in around 2:00am, add that with muscle fatigue and you get a lot of sleep!! Hahaha!!
I have been thinking very seriously about my New Year's Resolutions. Actually, I would prefer to not call them resolutions. I will think of them as goals for 2006. I can keep goals, but resolutions, I am not sure I can keep!! Haha!! So here they are.
In 2006 I would:
like to run 3 marathons (starting with Surfside on 2/11)
move closer to becoming vegetarian (I have quite a way to)
to get recertified for ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
to get CPFT certified (Certified Pulmonary Function Technician)
go on a tropical vacation

So this seems like a lot, but I think I can do it!! The marathon in Feb will be tough to get ready for, but I think if I push hard enough and stay injury free, I can do it. I can't help but be excited for the future. There are so many wonderful things to look forward to.
